Toyota JZ engines come both turbo and naturally aspirated and in two displacement variations - a 2.5L and 3.0L inline-6 cylinder configuration. Known for being the heart of the Toyota Supra, the JZ engine powers all of Toyota’s sports cars and has a wide variety of aftermarket upgrades. The JZ engine replaced Toyota’s M-series inline-6 engine and continues to be a favorite of import tuners. The Toyota 2JZ-GTE engine is seen as the rival to Nissan’s legendary RB26DETT, as both stock engine blocks can handle up to 1000 horsepower (745 kW).

The Toyota Soarer is a two-door luxury coupe sold only in Japan from 1981 until 2004. The Soarer replaced the Toyota Crown Coupe and is closely related to the Lexus SC 300/400. There are four distinctive series of Soarers all with FR layouts (front engine and rear wheel drive), thus making them suitable for drifting. The early model Soarers closely resemble Nissan S110 Silvia, but the later Soarers take on a personality of their own and share the powerful JZ engine present in the Toyota Supra. Currently, Japanese drifter Takahiro Ueno is driving a Soarer in D1 Grand Prix.

Chris Forsberg took first place at the Formula Drift season opener in Long Beach, CA. Samuel Hubinette took second and had a few choice words to say about Chris’ last run.
“In the last corner as I was following Forsberg he purposely slowed down and choked me so I had to ether hit him or the wall so I ended up touching the wall with my passenger side door. I am surprised he was using that type of tactics. Now I know and I will not forget,” says Hubinette.
It was a tight battle from the first run, but whether or not Forsberg “purposely slowed down” is not up for debate as the Formula D judges awarded Chris the win. Had there been proof of Sam’s allegations, Forsberg would have been disqualified under Formula D rule.
2007 Formula Drift Champion Tanner Foust took third and Kyle Mohan finished fourth. Round 2 of the 2008 Formula Drift season is scheduled for May 9 and 10 in Braselton, GA.

D1 Grand Prix is bringing the excitement of D1GP to the arcade. Prior to this arcade release, D1GP launched a video game on the PS2 that went widely unnoticed. D1’s second attempt into the video game industry continues with the officially licensed D1 name, real drivers, authentic drift cars, and actual tracks that D1 Grand Prix is known for. The bright orange arcade cabinet is outfitted with D1 graphics and the latest in wide screen LCD monitor technology.
One or two players compete for high scores that are kept online so players can compare rankings via their mobile phones. 2006 Japanese D1 Grand Prix Champion Nobushige Kumakubo appears in the game’s training mode to give players some pro tips on maintaining line and drift angle. Like the real D1GP, players earn points based on corner entry speed, line, and drift style. You can watch a trailer for the new D1GP Arcade game at their website.
