About Drift Japan:
My name is Tom, Drift Japan is my clothing line, and this is my blog. In short, I think drifting and Japan are the coolest things in the world!
Drift Japan was started by me and my best friend Gini. We got tired of seeing whack drift designs with stupid sayings, ugly colors, and no style. We wanted cool drifting t-shirts with underground street racing style and something that showed respect to the country where drifting began - JAPAN. Thus, Drift Japan was built and tuned into a motorsport fashion brand.
Keiichi “Drift King” Tsuchiya says you can drift anything with four wheels, so that makes everyone driving a car a potential drifter. Drifting in Japan has been commercially popular for over fifteen years and now drifting is rapidly building a fan base in North America, Australia, UK, and Malaysia. I am excited about the potential for drifting motorsports worldwide and hope Drift Japan can add to the culture and encourage drivers to have more fun with their cars. Drifting rules!
A Brief History of Drifting:
The Japanese towns of Rokkosan, Hakone, Irohazaka, and various hill climbs in Nagano are all steeped in legends of the origins of drifting. No one can pinpoint for certain drifting’s birthplace but the movement started in the mid 1960s.
Like many forms of professional racing today, modern drifting evolved from a form of illegal street racing held on windy mountain roads called touge. Eventually, these touge racers began to adopt driving techniques used by rally drivers to help maintain their momentum through corners. From touge, drifting was born.
