BMI The EVO Strikes Back

The EVO Strikes BackBest Motoring International The EVO Strikes Back is a great dvd for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution fans, but I was eager to get to the My Car Challenge and Touge Showdown sections of this dvd.

EVO Strikes Back DVD Chapters:

  • The EVO Strikes Back
  • EVO vs STi – 4WD Shootout at Tsukuba Circuit
  • My Car Challenge
  • Touge Showdown 3

The EVO Strikes BackThe EVO Strikes Back takes place at the famous Nurburgring race track in Germany. First Japanese driver Akihiko Nakaya takes the Lancer Evolution VIII GSR for a test drive and talks about its new improvements. Weight loss and build quality are two attributes Akihiko Nakaya first remarks about the new EVO. A 6-speed manual cross mission is new compared to last years 5-speed and revised electronic stability controls make the Lancer Evolution more competitive. The ACD (Active Center Differential) allows the driver to select Tarmac, Gravel, or Snow depending on driving conditions and the new Super AYC (Active Yaw Control) doubles the amount of torque that can be transferred between the rear wheels and improving drifting.

Next, three competition EVOs are tested by Japanese drivers Takayuki Kinoshita, Akihiko Nakaya, and the 2002 All Japan Rally Champion Fumid Nutahara. Tsukuba Circuit is the setting for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution vs Subaru Impreza STi 4WD Shootout. Three EVOs take on three STis in this race where the Evolution narrowly wins.

The EVO Strikes BackThe My Car Challenge enables amateur racers to challenge the Drift King and other BMI drivers to a time attack taking turns driving the challenger’s car. This My Car Challenge is set a Tsukuba circuit and the challengers who qualified brought a Mazda RX-7 and a Toyota Starlet to race. The challenger goes first setting the time for the pro to beat. As an added plus, a sexy Japanese girl is added to Keiichi Tsuchiya’s camera car.

Touge Showdown is Best Motoring International’s search for the best street tuned vehicles. Touge Showdown features famous Japanese drivers Keiichi Tsuchiya, Manabu Orido, and Nobuteru Taniguchi as they test drive cars that include: AE86, Spoon Civic EG6, Spirits MR-S, Yashio Factory Vitz, Integra R, Cappuccino, Miata, and the C-one Celica. After the pros test drive the cars, three are selected to race in an Initial D style Touge Battle against the current Touge Champion – Tsuchiya’s own Toyota AE86 Hachiroku known as the Touge Monster.

The EVO Strikes Back“A good tuning car has to be something you can take out to the streets,” Keiichi Tsuchiya.

Overall, there is not much drifting in this BMI dvd, but then again there is an AWD grip car on the cover and the dvd title is “The EVO Strikes Back.” The Lancer Evolution VIII is the star of this dvd, but the Touge Showdown brings out some great JDM tuned cars and makes for some exciting touge battles.
