Drift City
Drift City is a free online drift game that features extensive car customization and street racing action in a RPG format. Originally named Skid Rush by Korean game developers, Drift City rewards players for completing races and story based missions. Learning how to drift is key to mastering game play in Drift City.
Drift City takes place in the near future during a worldwide oil shortage on an island in the North Pacific known as Mittron Island. Mittron Island is home to a newly discovered energy resource known as Mittron that quickly becomes the preferred fuel source for all vehicles. To manage Mittron Island and its resources, the Organization for Mittron Development, or OMD, is created.
Mittron Island consists of four cities: Moon Palace, Koinonia, Cras, and Oros. Players start in Moon Palace and unlock cities by completing story based missions and leveling up. Once cities are unlocked, players can travel between them any time with the highway system.
Each Drift City server hosts a central hub known as the Driver Dome where drivers can chat, customize their cars, and challenge other racers. The Driver Dome features the Battle Zone, where drivers can race head to head on preset courses, the Auction House, where players can purchase items others have posted for sale, the Dealership, where players purchase new vehicles, the Parts Shop, the Garage, and the Crew Center, where players can create a clan or “crew” and participate in crew battles. The Driver Dome has an underground level only accessible to players over Level 30.
The Drift Shop is accessed by pressing F4 and is where you can customize the look of your car. Items sold in the Drift Shop do not take up part slots when equipped and cannot be sold back to the Drift Shop, traded, or sold to other players. Once you buy an item, you’re stuck with it until you delete it. Cars can be upgraded to the next car class with the Upgrade Car Class item in the Drift Shop.
The only officially licensed cars in Drift City are Chrysler vehicles like the Dodge Viper but other cars in the game strongly resemble their real world counterparts.
Farming HUVs involves finding long straightaways in the game where HUVs have little room to turn making them easier to attack and reducing their chance of escape. There are two areas currently in Drift City where you can farm HUVs. The first area is near Station 4 in the city of Koinonia and the second is near Station 1 in Cras.
Controls in Drift City are handled by the keyboard and are relatively simple:
- Accelerate: ↑
- Brake/Reverse: ↓
- Left and right: ← and →
- Drift: Shift + ← or →
- Boost: Ctrl + ↑ while booster full
- Use item in Quick Item slot 1: 1
- Use item in Quick Item slot 2: 2
- Look behind: Hold X
- Change view: C
Special power ups are available if you have the parts that allow them:
- Turbo Launch (Acts like boost, but does not waste boost when used): Shift + ↑
- Super Stop (Stops faster than ↓ alone): Shift + ↓
Currently, Drift City is only available for PCs with Microsoft Windows. Visit the official Drift City website to download the game for free.
