Best Motoring Hot Version International: JDM Racers is a cool drifting DVD that starts off by covering Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya’s final race and retirement ceremony held at the Tsukuba Circuit in Japan. Initial D Arcade Stage 4 began testing October 21-30, 2006 at three gaming centers in Tokyo, Osaka and Aomori Japan. Initial D Arcade Stage 4 was introduced internationally in July 2007.
The new Initial D Arcade Stage 4 has a new physics engine, cell shaded animated characters, a 32 inch LCD screen, and the gear shift has been relocated to a lower more realistic location near where you insert your Initial D card. A new feature connects gamers to Sega’s All.Net online play network that allows players from around the world to race each other in tsuiso battles and fight for high scores.
The new Initial D cards allow players to own 3 cars and stores data like modifications to vehicles, avatar customizations, and high scores. The car tuning and customization is done at the end of every three plays in the order of Performance, Bodywork, Performance, Aerodynamic Parts….and repeats this order throughout the game. You can’t transfer data from older games since the new machines won’t read Initial D Arcade Stage 1 through 3 style cards.

JDM Option is the coolest drifting and motorsport DVD series from Japan with high quality drifting video and excellent subtitles. JDM Option International: Volume 26 has three main features:
- Jidousha (car) Soccer World Cup
- 2006 Tsukuba Superlap Time Attack
- Video coverage of 2006 D1 Grand Prix Malaysia Series
The car soccer segment is the most entertaining part of this JDM Option DVD and there is not much drifting, but the Tsukuba Superlap time attack was cool.
Jidousha Soccer World Cup is simply insane. What else would you expect when you combine demolition derby, soccer, and a 50 pound soccer ball?
Two teams, Akutoku Tuners vs. Boso Drifters face off in a dangerous game of car soccer. Daijiro Inada acts as referee but really Inada spends most of the match running for his life from these drifters since he has the smallest car!

Touge is a Japanese word literally meaning “pass” as in mountain pass or a road between two mountains. Touge refers to the narrow winding mountain roads.
Due to steep elevation changes, a series of turns and bends, sometimes called cut backs, is needed to provide access to and from the higher elevations. Aside from construction limitations, like not being able to pave a road straight up the side of a mountain, the winding road is intended as a safety measure - typically preventing drivers from reaching extreme speeds while on the mountain.
Nevertheless, street racers and motorsport enthusiasts alike seek to test their drifting skills on the touge. Eventually, these touge racers began to adopt driving techniques used by rally drivers to help maintain their momentum through the corners. From touge racing, drifting was born.

Originally, Initial D was a manga written by Japanese author Shuichi Shigeno that has been featured in Kodansha’s Young Magazine since 1995. Since Initial D’s inception, Initial D has been adapted into a long-running anime series, live action film, and video games.
The Initial D anime and manga focus on the world of Japanese underground mountain-pass street racing known as touge racing where drifting is key to maintaining speed and winning races. In order to stay true to street racing and drifting culture, Initial D producers hired street racing and drifting legend Keiichi “Drift King” Tsuchiya to their editorial staff.

Option Magazine, is an automotive magazine founded by D1 Grand Prix creator Daijiro Inada in 1981, to meet the demand for enthusiasts of modified Japanese cars in Japan. During its early years, Option Magazine was used to cover street races held on Japan’s expressways before it became illegal.
Option Magazine also covers the exploits of founder Daijiro Inada’s attempts at breaking various land speed records, whether it was at Bonneville, at the German Autobahn or at the Silver State Classic. Currently, Option Magazine features Wangan competitions on closed roads where it is legal to race.
Beside speed tests and modified car features, Option Magazine regularly features, a rate-my-car section where readers send in a photo of their car to be judged by Manabu Suzuki, who was an original D1 Grand Prix judge and former racecar driver, typically to receive a comedic response. Other monthly features include Keiichi “Drift King” Tsuchiya solving readers’ problems related to drifting, a column called Sugoiyo Osaru-chin by Ken “Nomuken” Nomura, plus features from other racecar drivers like Eiji Yamada and Manabu “Max” Orido. Option Magazine also has a D1 Grand Prix mini-magazine that showcases the drifting series.

Best Motoring: Drift Bible is an in-depth instructional drifting video that looks into six different drift techniques that Keiichi “Drift King” Tsuchiya uses while racing. Throughout the Drift Bible, Tsuchiya uses the Kei Office Nissan S14 Silvia on Ebisu Circuit’s East Course 2nd Hairpin (21R) corner to demonstrate the six basic drifting techniques: Side or E-brake drifting, Shift Lock drifting, Power Over drifting, Braking drift, Feint drift, and Lift-off drifting a form of Dynamic drifting.
Here is a brief overview of the six basic drifting techniques that Keiichi Tsuchiya demonstrates during the Drift Bible.
Side or E-brake Drifting – (Does not require weight transition) Use the car’s e-brake to lock the rear tires.
Drift Sequence:
- Brake
- Turn wheel
- Step on clutch
- Pull E-brake
- Release E-brake
- Countersteer
- Then wait until car is facing corner exit, then gently give the car gas – how hard you step on the gas depends how much you are countersteering and sliding.

Many of Drift Japan’s MySpace friends ask me how I liked the movie, Fast and Furious 3 - Tokyo Drift. My typical response is that anything that has to do with drifting is great! Overall, Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift has some cool drifting sequences with nice camera angles that really show off some of the nicer cars in the movie like the Veilside Mazda RX-7, Veilside Nissan Fairlady Z, the Nissan Skyline GTR R33, and the Nissan S13 and S15 Silvias.
Like any other movie Hollywood produces, you are going to have your obvious product placements and hey look at this advertiser’s logo moments but mostly, I was just excited to see drifting being shown in American movie theaters. I would rather watch Keiichi “Drift King” Tsuchiya’s Drift Bible over Fast and Furious 3 – Tokyo Drift, but considering the movie is for entertainment purposes and not a technical guide to drifting, the filmmakers did a great job.
